It's indispensable for keeping track of my book collection. :-) Secondly, I have a query regarding an odd issue with text not word-wrapping since upgrading my Ubuntu machine from Breezy to Dapper. The result is that instead of my books being displayed in neat rows, they have large white-space gaps between them due to the length of the titles displacing their normal positions. I realise that this is unlikely to be an Alexandria issue *specifically*, but I've searched all the relevant online sources I can find and no one else seems to have reported this issue. My installation of Dapper is quite standard, and it has manifested on both occasions I have upgraded the OS in this way. All other applications seem to be fine, except for Amule, which makes me wonder if it could be related to a library they both use? Dapper's Font preferences don't seem to have any obvious word-wrapping setting that I can locate, which was my first thought. I'm sorry if this doesn't seem very clear as regards a visual description. I can send in a screenshot to illustrate it if this is of use? The issue is cosmetic only, but a little annoying. Has anyone else seen this issue, or have any ideas for a fix? Thanks, Steve. From lennart at karssen.org Wed Jul 26 08:55:34 2006 From: lennart at karssen.org (L.C. Up till recently I was using Slackware for my main OS, and installing ruby and its dependencies looked wuite a task, so I actually never tried. Now I've installed Ubuntu 6.06 on my workstation and want to give Alexandria a try. My main point is that I'd like to use the Cuecat I got years ago to help me scan in my library. I've noticed that Cuecat userland support is almost there, but Laurent S. was calling for someone to merge his userland stuff into the Acquire book dialog (in his mail to the list of March 14th, 2006). I tried to see what happened when I plug in my Cuecat. As soon as I scan a barcode is spits out its coded characters. So I think that it is not necessary to have a driver loaded for the cat. I read somewhere that the gray barcode in the Add book dialog shows whether /dev/scanners/cuecat exist, and if so, it changes from gray to white. Why not make this a button, so that if a cuecat exists, a decode routine (from lib/alexandria/scanners/cuecat.rb) can be called on the (cuecat) input in the ISBN input line? I'm not a (Ruby) programmer myself, but I could give it a try in my spare time. I did some small programming in the past (mainly for scientific stuff). I tried to run "ruby alexandria.rb" in the lib directory of the source package, but that gives me the following error: alexandria.rb:21: uninitialized constant Alexandria::GetText (NameError) Does this point to a missing library (although I did use Ubuntu's synaptic to install the alexandria package and its dependencies as well). So, in short, is there a way to test/compile ruby programs? B.t.w, the links on the website that point to the CVS repository don't work anymore. Message-ID: <44C7B69A.6030108@s-spicer.uklinux.net> Just finished cataloguing 3,000 or so books when my box (running Ubuntu 6) crashed. "Did you back up?" "Yes" So all apps reinstalled. Time to navigate to the backup. import /media/backup/.alexandria/My Library/shelf1 Autodetect I start by selecting the shelf. No multiselection allowed! So I select 12345678.yaml (Can I do this 3,000 times before I die?) 'The format of the file you provided is unknown. Please retry with another file.' There are two fuzzy words: "is in last" and "is not in last" because I don't know what is the meaning of them. Thank you. El vie, 28-07-2006 a las 19:51 +0200, L.C.
