I'm new to the list, but I've been interested in Alexandria for a while. I recently hacked up some initial support for CueCat ISBN barcode scanning in the acquire_dialog; barcodes are accepted and added to the TreeView. I'd like to proceed to do online provider lookups and image download, and adding the results to the selected library and all that, but I think the majority of the code for that is in the new_book_dialog. Before I mess up my code too much, what's the plan for refactoring out that functionality? (I've seen on the list archive that some further separation of core and user-interface code is planned.) A quick chat with a developer should be all I need to proceed. Perhaps over IRC? (I'm on Irish time, but late nights are the norm for me anyway.) By the way, I have a USB CueCat and it works perfectly with the one-at-a-time new_book_dialog with the current SVN Alexandria. Thanks, - Cathal. If Alexandria is useful to you and you want to extend its functionality, that's great. As you can see from the mailing list, though, it's a very sleepy project. The ambitious refactoring plans won't happen for a long time if ever, and if/when they do, your code wouldn't be affected. One thing that would be cool is if you thought about how the code you'd be adding could be made into a Rspec test, to be run with the `rake spec` task installed in the Rakefile in svn (requires the spec gem). Probably you can't because, uhh, nothing else is being tested ATM, but that will be the real future of Alexandria if it has one, test-driven development. I'm tristil in IRC if you have any questions. Is this what > you're looking for? Thanks for your message. I saw your screenshots and I think we have a version difference. My preferences screen doesn't have the Advanced Settings check box at all! Here is how it looks: http://girish.50webs.com/preferences.png. My version is 0.6.1 and I guess that is what is available in SVN as well. Maybe someone could clarify? And by the way I think your screenshots are worth inclusion in the Alexandria Help pages. I cc-ing this to the list. -- Girish Kulkarni - Allahabad, India - http://girish.50webs.com
