I also found the book at Amazon[ca], whereas you got "no products". I tested this by modifying (breaking) my AWS secret key, and found that Amazon[ca] reports "no products" instead of failing with Forbidden 403, so this could have the same root cause asthe above problem. It's a shame I didn't think to output the error message from the Forbidden result at Amazon. I half-thought it might have been to do with the "timestamp" since we've recently switched back to GMT from Summer Time, but your e-mail has the +00:00 time-zone, so I don't think that's it... If you like, when you get another of these Request URLs which results in a failing message, quickly copy and paste the URL into a web-browser and read the contents of the element (it needs to be quickly, or the timestamp of the URL will have expired) and e-mail it to me. To get much more verbose debug information, run Alexandria with alexandria --debug I don't really think it'll be helpful in this case though. What I'll probably do is install the latest Ubuntu somewhere and try to diagnose the problem first-hand. Ping me again if I haven't got back to this issue within a week or so. ... As a side note, you may find that most of the other providers seem broken too. This looks like the Hpricot problem I found recently https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libhpricot-ruby/+bug/440158 (Summary: the alpha and beta Karmic releases of Ubuntu ship with libhpricot-ruby 0.8 which is buggy. 0.8.1 fixes these problems.) Hopefully, Ubuntu will upgrade to the working version before Karmic final comes out. In the mean time, you can upgrade libhpricot-ruby by downloading the suitable deb files for libhpricot-ruby and libhpricot-ruby1.8 from Debian, here: http://packages.debian.org/testing/ruby/libhpricot-ruby and here: http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/libhpricot-ruby1.8 This *should* be safe (provided you pick the right architecture for the libhpricot-ruby1.8 deb), but of course I can't guarantee it. - C. - -- http://palatina.gnostai.org/ - Palatina: the experimental Alexandria -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: GnuPT 2.6.2.1 by EQUIPMENTE.DE iEYEARECAAYFAkrlvlcACgkQfMAUnRdb+8rCUACgxjLIV4rd/Fh2HfrJO7xHZWwg TdkAnRHJvkDG1d5+K2HNcmDm6zWAh9x9 =rcIe -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From pocmatos at gmail.com Thu Oct 29 08:51:00 2009 From: pocmatos at gmail.com (Paulo J. I did get to see a recently generated page and the problem was with the amazon key. Restoring it from backup seemed to have done something to the keys. Couldn't see anything wrong, but copying and pasting them in again made it work. So sorry about the false alarm. And thanks for telling me how to recover the keys. Alexandria is a brilliant app. I even bought a cuecat to go with it - which is one weird device, described (correctly I think) as an inappropriate solution to a non-existant problem. The only bug that I can see is that I can't delete anything. Yep. Oddly, it was a precursor to snapping 2D barcodes with your mobile-phone camera and going directly to some sort of promotional website. But with none of the technology to make it convenient or compelling. Makes a cheap barcode reader though - I have one myself! I bought it online and started contributing to Alexandria at around the same time. > The only bug that I can see is that I can't delete anything. I've heard of this report before. I really must try to get to the bottom of this issue. What exact version of Ubuntu (Kubuntu) are you using? Actually, the final release of Karmic came out today, so I'll just install that on one of my old computers and see if I can reproduce the problem. - C. - -- http://palatina.gnostai.org/ - Palatina: the experimental Alexandria -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: GnuPT 2.6.2.1 by EQUIPMENTE.DE iEYEARECAAYFAkrp3L4ACgkQfMAUnRdb+8r7kgCfaz9Dmlva8WFPb5puVP6Spx9+ 1jEAn0GZgiW4Fir9XXeZLBaMPyICsZNi =eD9B -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From pocmatos at gmail.com Fri Oct 30 05:35:28 2009 From: pocmatos at gmail.com (Paulo J. CueCats can read "Linear Barcodes", like the ones on books & magazines, CDs & DVDs, and lots of grocery products. (This translates to ISBN, ISSN, EAN and UPC codes). Alexandria can currently read ISBN barcodes using a CueCat (or any "Keyboard Wedge" barcode reader). > Where did you get yours from? > I got mine at "Electro Mavin" for $12 plus postage. http://www.mavin.com/index.php/products/usb-cuecat-single-units It was "as-new" (I believe the stock was bought at the liquidation sale of "Digital Convergence Corporation"). You also might be able to pick one up cheaper from ebay or somewhere similar. > I am having a hard time finding a cheap bar code reader to input my > book collection into Alexandria. A CueCat will do the trick - you don't even need to modify it to work with Alexandria. (It uses a trivial data-scrambling which can be disabled by opening up the device and breaking some pins on the circuit board - but Alexandria just does the de-scrambling in software). Just plug the CueCat into your USB port, open the "Add Book" dialog in Alexandria and swipe the barcode... I seem to remember I've given this information more than once - sounds like a Frequently Asked Question to me (must add FAQ page to the Alexandria web site then... and the manual is out-of-date for barcode scanner support too). Aha - there's a doc file - cuecat_support.rdoc http://alexandria.rubyforge.org/rdoc/cuecat_support.rdoc It's not very easy to follow though. - C. - -- http://palatina.gnostai.org/ - Palatina: the experimental Alexandria -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: GnuPT 2.6.2.1 by EQUIPMENTE.DE iEYEARECAAYFAkrrTUEACgkQfMAUnRdb+8pgzwCeKSAJvaflbcByFeOnuFQUJSyx oykAn13Kxw1hjVlNOl7zLTFW/4HdfntS =FCTa -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
