The story is that I'm doing some fairly involved soap interaction in my Rails app. There happens to be a bug fix in soap4r that I need to integrate into my project. I have Ruby 1.8.4 installed but soap4r is at 1.5.5 at the new fix won't be included until the new release which isn't due for at least a few weeks (or later). So I can pull down the latest version via svn but what's the best way to integrate this into my Ruby library? Should I overwrite the soap4r directories under /usr/lib/ruby/1.8? Or is there a different approach. Thanks! I know that at least one of us will be there early and I'm all for others coming around 6 and eating. I wanted to pass this along in case others wanted to come early and join in on dinner before the 7pm start. I am planning on being at the Southern Suns at 6pm to get a table. I've already called ahead so the host/hostess is expecting us. By 7pm we should have a table for the group when the bulk of you will arrive. Anyone is welcome to come early and hang out with me while we wait for the table. I am planning on eating dinner but I suspect that we'll still be eating when 7pm rolls around. To find the group just ask the host/hostess where the Ruby group's table is or ask for Marty's table. Either should work. If you do want to come early and would like to hook up with me before we have a table, reply to me offlist and we'll work out the 'handshake'. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. It should be a good time. If you have any questions or comments feel free to fire them off to the list. We had nearly 30 people show up, way more than our two tables could handle. Hopefully each of you got to chat with some of the other folks who showed up. I was actually a bit worried that they wouldn't be able to accommodate our needs but the table situation was about as ideal as we could have hoped for. Though I believe a lot of you had fun, we will not use this format for future meetings as conversations could only be heard by a few people at a time. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 15th. The guys over at Collective Intellect have volunteered use of one of their large conference rooms for the meeting. It is located in the Mobius building (36 and McCaslin - directions down below). The room will have table space for 20 as well as outlets for your laptops and ethernet jacks if you want internet. There is a wireless network in the coffee shop below them that is wide open if you prefer. There is additional couch seating along the walls for another 10, plus additional chairs can be brought in. Our format for the night will fairly easy going. At 6pm we'll have networking session with pizza (compliments Collective Intellect). At 7pm we'll kick off the meeting with some short announcements. Afterwards David Alan Black will be speaking on a topic yet to be decided (though will probably relate to his new book on Rails for Manning). For those of you who don't know David, he's been a leader in the Ruby community for some time now. He and Chad run Ruby Central and put on the annual RubyConf. I'll post a short bio on him down below the directions if you want to know more about David (copied from Manning's site). We'll have plenty of time for discussion with David afterwards so it won't be too formal. We will be done by 9pm at the latest though I believe some of us will migrate down to Old Chicago afterwards. It should be a good time so I hope to see you all there. I know that I mentioned this to several of you last night but I'm a big fan of good software conferences. I saw notice of this a couple of days ago and I encourage you all to check it out, if you haven't already. http://www.waterfall2006.com/ Cheers, Marty Directions: Mobius Building 100 Superior Plaza Way, Suite 200 Superior, CO 80027 URL to google maps: http://tinyurl.com/dc9be Enter through the door between the Superior Liquor store and Super Joe Coffee (marked Mobius/Return Path). Go up the stairs (we'll have someone at the door, since it is locked at that hour) and it's the first conference room on your right, marked "Demonstration Room". David A. Black, a leader in the Ruby community, has programmed Ruby for over five years, and Rails applications since 2004. He is a founding director of Ruby Central, Inc., parent organization of the annual International Ruby Conference (RubyConf) and the first annual official International Rails Conference. He is a Ruby core contributor, creator and maintainer of the Rails-based Ruby Change Request Archive (RCRchive), and the chief developer of the Rails applications behind the Ruby FAQ.
