From jforeman at hark.org Mon Aug 1 20:05:46 2005 From: jforeman at hark.org (Jason Foreman) Date: Mon Aug 1 19:57:17 2005 Subject: [Chicago Area Ruby Group] August Meeting Message-ID: Hello all, Are there any plans for the August meeting? I would like to have some sort of agenda ahead of time if possible. Not a schedule or anything that formal, just an idea of what we might do or discuss. Did anything ever come of the talk with the ChiPy/Django people about a 'crossover' meeting? Are there any topics (besides Rails) which people have interest in covering at the meeting? I am personally very interested in anything people have done with GUIs in Ruby. I have had next to no luck with anything I've done in that arena so far, so if anyone else has some input I'd love to hear it. Other topics that might interest me would be testing (TestUnit, whatever) and/or DRb. If we do end up on Rails anyway, what type of things would make good topics? I'd like to maybe do some Rails versus XXXX and get some comparisons with other frameworks. Perhaps looking at Rails/Nitro/ Wee/Iowa, or ActiveRecord/Og/Kansas. I plan on coming to the meeting this month, agenda or no. But it never hurts to have some inkling of a plan. I've done my fair share of testing in Ruby. I would love share some on that if there is an interest. I've also done a small amount with Drb, but not enough to share much with it. Perhaps you could put together a few things and bring them for show and tell? =) At this point our Ruby groups have been pretty small so there hasn't been a lot of point in adding a lot of organization to it in that we often don't know who is going to show up. Most of the time it's just Ryan Platte and I, although we have the occasional straggler. Recently, we've been working on a Rails application that we put together for Rails Day a couple of weeks ago. It's been pretty fun and has given us the opportunity to work on something with a little substance. If there was a set topic would more people show up? I forget where the ChiPy/Django thing is. I'll try and get back on top of that and report back. -- John Long http://wiseheartdesign.com Jason Foreman wrote: > Hello all, > > Are there any plans for the August meeting? I'll try to play with DRb a bit, but with no real use case for it I don't know how much I'll have to show :) And I'm definitely up for hearing you talk about testing.
