Most notably, we're adding a Story framework that allows you to express things at the User Story level, leaving the original framework focused on object-level BDD. This is basically Dan North's RBehave framework merged in to RSpec. Given that it looks like we're planning talks for some months ahead, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for a talk on this later this year or early next :) Cheers, David From jcroneme at thoughtworks.com Thu Sep 6 11:20:37 2007 From: jcroneme at thoughtworks.com (Josh Cronemeyer) Date: Thu, 6 Sep 2007 10:20:37 -0500 Subject: [Chirb] rspec story runner talk? It sounds like January might be the first available, however January is usually very sparsely attended because of the holliday hangover. So maybe Feb. is better? In an rjs template I've got: page.assign 'variable_name', 'value' but that leaves me wondering how to read that variable back and use it later on in the application. Not my intention. I just wanted to let all of the Halo fans on this list know that I will be hosting a Halo 3 Pre-launch party at the Microsoft offices in Downers Grove on Monday night, September 24th. We have a few slots left on the registration list, and I'd like to personally invite members of this mailing list to join us. We'll have several 42" Plasma TV's and a smattering of HD projectors with Halo 3 and Xbox 360 goodness going on all night. In addition, we'll have food, drinks and prizes throughout the night. If you can make it out, head on over to http://www.iammasterchief.com and register with the RSVP code of 'CHICAGOBCC'. Everyone must register to be allowed in. Please only register if you're sure to make it. I would hate registration to fill up with 'Maybes'. You can find more details at http://www.davebost.com/?p=315. Also... is anyone going to the Softies on Rails training class? If so, be sure to come up and say "Hi". I'll be there as well. ~db dave bost | developer evangelist | microsoft corporation | e: dbost at microsoft.com | b: http://www.davebost.com/blog -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We would love to have you come and spend time with us if you're available! Where is it? ---------- BarCamp is happening at the Schlitz Park Center, 1555 Rivercenter Drive in downtown Milwaukee, on the river's edge. I was in the meeting space the other day and the whole Schlitz Park and 3rd Street areas are getting revitalized. There's a great energy down there. Here's a map to where BarCamp will take place: http://tinyurl.com/37udgp What is BarCamp all about? ------------------------ It's a space and a place where people interested in learning and sharing can hang out, and learn with others who want to learn and share. BarCamp is a free event but there are also no passive attendees -- we encourage everyone to share something with the group -- whether expertise, knowledge, passion about a topic or simply helping out during the event. http://barcampmilwaukee.com/getting-started How Much is it? -------------- It's totally free! There will be food and camping space provided for attendees who need a place to crash on Saturday night, though you can drive home, or attend just Saturday, or just Sunday, whatever suits your schedule. If you decide to camp, just bring a pillow and a sleeping bag. :-) Free T-Shirt with Registration! -------------------------- Register, and you'll get a cool t-shirt for free: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=1403125149&size=l IMPORTANT: It's critical that you sign up by Wednesday, September 26th, and be sure to include your shirt size! Once we take the art and shirt info to the printer on the 26th, there's no guarantee of getting a t-shirt! I would love to have you come to BarCamp Milwaukee 2. It's going to be a great time of learning, sharing and getting to know all kinds of different, interesting people from Milwaukee and the Midwest. Sign up here: http://barcampmilwaukee.com/user/register If you have any questions about the event, send me a note. Call me lazy but I was hoping somebody else (i'm thinking of peter) might have some time to look into this. I was cloning the october meeting. Here is the name field: "Andy Maleh on JRuby and Eclipse RCP" The time was November 12th. Here is what I put into the description field: "Andy has prepared this talk for EclipseCon 2008. Join us November 12, to get an early look at this talk. JRuby on RCP http://eclipsecon.greenmeetingsystems.com/submissions/view/2 Eclipse RCP is a solid framework for developing platform-independent desktop applications with Java. JRuby enables using Java libraries in the terser friendlier syntax of Ruby. So, how about we combine the two of them: JRuby and RCP! Doors open at 6 PM for pizza and chat. The presentations begin at 6:30 PM." Josh Cronemeyer chicagogroup-members-list-bounces at rubyforge.org wrote on 09/28/2007 05:05:01 PM: > > Maybe we should move it to the following weekend anyway.
