“The ability to connect via the Internet to groups, segments, and individuals changes everything.” – Joe Trippi (Howard Dean campaign, 2004)

What
happens when technology, the internet and campaigning meet to change
our elections and government? Barack Obama's campaign redefined the
election process and changed the way fundraising and grassroots
organizing works by reaching voters, donors and the media through
BarackObama.com, email and social networks like Facebook, YouTube and
Twitter.

Strategy aside; how did the Obama for America team
manage BarackObama.com with its 2 million registered users? How did the
team develop a site effective as Amazon.com to amass databases of 13
million supporters and  4 million donors; all within a two year
campaign?

Walker Hamilton will present his first-hand experience
as Site Architect for Obama for America to give us an insider's view of
the technology aspects of a political campaign; how the structure of a
campaign vastly differs from the hierarchy of the business world; how
political philosophy affects the use of technology; and how you can be
part of  a politician's support system in future campaigns.

About the Speaker

Walker Hamilton,

Chicago, IL; and as technical director for Digital Web Magazine
(digital-web.com) where he designed the content management system for
their leading online publication for professional web designers,
developers and information architects.

Walker recently became
Lead Information Architect at Paradowski Creative in St. Louis and is a
co-owner of Black Point Editions, a fine-arts print shop.
