I hate mysteries like this. You really want to know the answer, but the effort required to figure it out is to high. Since it appears to be much easier than we previously thought, maybe I can find some time this weekend to get Typo in as a sample app and do a new release of Instant Rails. For those who are wondering, the final release of Instant Rails 1.0 will come after the final release Rails 1.0 *and* after the final release of Ruby 1.8.4 (actually, after the release of the one-click installer for 1.8.4). Ok, first problem, you probably don't mean to use validate(), since that is a method called when a record is saved; see http://api.rubyonrails.com/classes/ActiveRecord/Validations.html I don't know if that is causing the error or not. Ineffect, it's really quite simple, hardly any changes are needed; just the usual vhost and .htaccess modifications. On that note, the default VirtualHost entry that comes with Instant Rails needs updating, it's way to complicated. Two things to try... First, check the scgi.log file to see if there's any useful info in there. You'll find it at: rails_apps\typo-2.6.0\log\scgi.log Second, as you suggested, you can start the SCGI server manually by: 1) Opening a Ruby command window using "Rails Applications >> Open Ruby Console Window" 2) Move into the typo subdirectory: "cd typo-2.6.0" 3) Run the command "ruby ..\..\ruby\bin\scgi_service" Curt -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Probably because the log directory did not exist at all. I did as Larry suggested and created rails_apps\typo-2.6.0\log\development.log and rails_apps\cookbook\log\development.log This solved my problems. I have the scgi.log now as well, but it does not contain any error. ;-) So it looks like ..\log\development.log should be part of the installation. At least the log directory. Maybe this this would be sufficient, but I did not try it. > Second, as you suggested, you can start the SCGI server manually by: > > 1) Opening a Ruby command window using "Rails Applications >> Open > Ruby Console Window" > > 2) Move into the typo subdirectory: "cd typo-2.6.0" > > 3) Run the command "ruby ..\..\ruby\bin\scgi_service" Ah, OK.
