I'm actually working on something like that, which is part of why I
want to do the packages. still pretty early in development (and the
docs are a bit out of date at the moment) but if you want to get a
taste, it's called Box (see proutils.rubyforge.org/box).

(of course the tricky part is generalizing the procedures so anyone
can reuse them :)
